The 9th-term Congress of the Vietnam Food Association (VFA) was held on March 21 in Ho Chi Minh City. During VFA’s 8th term, especially from 2022 to 2024, rice exports consistently achieved remarkable milestones. In 2022, rice exports exceeded 7 million tons, in 2023 surpassed 8 million tons, and in 2024 reached over 9 million tons, setting a record export value of $5.7 billion. These outstanding achievements in rice exports have played a crucial role in helping the agricultural sector achieve a total export value of over $62 billion in 2024.
VFA has made significant contributions to the recent success of rice exports by actively coordinating rice export activities in compliance with government regulations; participating in and implementing national and industry-level trade promotion programs; and co-organizing three Vietnam Delicious Rice Contests in 2019, 2020, and 2022. Additionally, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (now the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), VFA organized a contest to create and vote for the national rice brand logo, “GẠO VIỆT NAM/VIETNAM RICE,” and registered the “VIETNAM RICE” trademark in importing countries, with all expenses covered by VFA.
Moreover, VFA has worked with the Department of Quality, Processing, and Market Development of Agricultural Products to establish national standards for white glutinous rice, paddy, and parboiled rice. It has also collaborated with relevant agencies to organize assessment delegations for reevaluating factories eligible for export to the Chinese market. Additionally, VFA has supported rice exporters in completing their registration with the General Administration of Customs of China in compliance with Order 248.

During the 9th term, VFA will continue to promote rice exports to ensure timely consumption of commercial rice and maintain business efficiency. It will also implement the restructuring of the rice sector and develop the Vietnam rice brand following Decision No. 706/QĐ-TTg dated May 21, 2015, approved by the Prime Minister under the “Project on Vietnam Rice Brand Development until 2020, with a Vision to 2030.”
VFA will also collaborate with government agencies and farmers to contribute to the success of the “Sustainable Development of 1 Million Hectares of High-Quality, Low-Emission Rice Cultivation Linked to Green Growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030” initiative.
Additionally, the association will enhance trade promotion efforts, disseminate export-import policies for the Vietnamese rice export business community in line with the “Vietnam Rice Export Market Development Strategy to 2030,” and fulfill its assigned tasks under Decree 107/2018 and Decree 01/2025 on rice export business operations.
